Almonds are one health conscious nut. They are kitchen workhorses. Almond flour makes for lower carb sweet treats; toasted almonds sprinkled on your salads, yogurt or cereal add protein and healthy fats; spread almond butter on your toast for a quick breakfast or use it to thicken and flavor your salad dressings at dinnertime.
In season: Available year-round
How to Buy: Almonds come roasted, sliced, raw, salted or unsalted. Be sure to buy from a store that moves their stock quickly so you know they are fresh.
Storage: Keep in an airtight container either in the fridge or a cool place. Because of their high oil content, they can go rancid quickly.
