We’re often told we have to drink 8 glasses of water a day to stay properly hydrated. This is one of those food myths that has long been debunked. This doesn’t mean to say we shouldn’t drink, we should, especially in the summer when the weather’s hot. Dehydration can make us headachy and grouchy at best, disoriented at worst. Hangovers are caused by dehydration if you need a benchmark. The scary thing is, once you feel thirsty, it’s already a sign that your body is dehydrated!
Drinking regularly throughout the day is so important when it comes to staying hydrated, however food can also help along the way. Research in some populations has shown that 20% to 30% of our fluid intake daily comes from food. Think about it. Juicy fruits, crunchy veggies, smoothies, soups and stews are the obvious ones. Here are some foods to help keep you hydrated along with your normal fluid intake, tastily too. This summer, sip, slurp, crunch and munch them to your heart’s content! Enjoy!
