In season: Although readily available year-round, oranges are at their peak from December through late spring.
How to buy: Choose fruits that are heavy for their size and free of blemishes and soft bruises. Navel oranges are great for eating, but all varieties are worth a try. If using the zest try to use organically grown oranges.
Storage: Keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or at room temperature for 5 days.
