Hello, I’m Dr. Rachel Yung, a breast medical oncologist working at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance/Fred Hutch and University of Washington. Lifestyle is an important part of breast cancer care and I’m delighted to be partnering on Cook & Move For Your Life to help figure out how best to support my patients on their journeys to improved health. Treatment can be hard on both the mind and body and good nutrition and exercise are good ways to counter those effects and there is building evidence that they themselves fight cancer. In this newsletter, you will be learning all about the benefits of being physically active. Enjoy!
Cook & Move For Your Life News #5
Benefits of Being Physically Active
Throughout the day, there are specific times when we can increase our physical activity:
- Housework and caring for family – such as vacuuming, sweeping, and caring for family members and pets, like carrying small children
- Recreational and leisure-time physical activity – such as going to a gym, doing an exercise video, or walking around the block or to a park
- Transportation – such as walking to the store or walking instead of taking the subway
Did you know? Being physically active can help you:
- Control your weight
- Feel more confident about your health
- Manage stress and reduce tension
- Be happier and have an overall more positive outlook
- Sleep better
- Have better health overall
- Reduce the chance of getting cancer again
