How to buy: If purchasing dried beans, be sure to buy them from a busy place — older beans take longer to cook. Look for beans that are whole and not too broken. When buying canned beans, do not buy cans with dents in them or any visible rusting.
Storage: Use cooked beans within 3 days. Drain and rinse canned beans to remove excess sodium, then store them in the fridge in an airtight container. Dried beans should be kept in a cool dark place. Freeze beans without their liquid in a resealable bag.
