When I was a girl in the UK, a friend of my mother’s used to make an oat dessert with summer fruits. I loved it. It was made with fruit, cooked oatmeal, and double cream all blended together with a ton of sugar — England’s weakness. This healthier version, strawberry compote smoothie, brings those taste memories back. It uses super sweet maple syrup instead of all that sugar, probiotic yogurt and our delicious Strawberry Compote, making this smoothie a perfect summer treat for those whose treatment has put them on either a neutropenic or a bland diet. It tastes great even if you don’t have those restrictions!
Ann’s Tips and Tricks
If you have to be careful of eating small seeds, just push the compote through a medium sieve with the back of a spoon straight into the blender. The compote is soft, and this won’t take too much effort to do.
You can substitute the milk for soy or almond milk, if you prefer it.
