Sidelining the Side Effects: Sore Mouth

Coping with a sore mouth can be one of the more unpleasant and difficult cancer treatment side effects. The discomfort can run from oral canker sores caused by chemo drugs, to burns to the... mouth and throat caused by head and neck radiation treatment that are so painful that eating and swallowing feel nearly impossible. There are a number of strategies you can use to ease the discomfort, like leaning into pureed soups, avoiding spicy foods, and eating room temperature or cold food. And don’t hesitate to let your medical team know ASAP if you’re having difficulties.
